Why Teeth Cleanings Are Important for Back-to-School Preparations

Somehow, the summer is almost over already! Whether you have kids in school or you are the student getting ready to college, you have to make sure your teeth are healthy. But before school starts don’t forget to make an appointment at Novi Family Dentistry to have your teeth cleaned!

What happens during a teeth cleaning?

Of course during an appointment, Dr. Abir Faraj and the staff at Novi Family Dentistry will give your teeth a thorough cleaning. This is important because just brushing every day isn’t enough to keep teeth healthy.

When you brush your teeth at night you are removing plaque. However, if plaque is given the chance to build up, it hardens into tartar, which can’t be removed by just flossing and brushing at home. Tartar has to be removed by the hygienist at your dentist’s office, using special tools. Once your teeth are nice and clean, the hygienist will polish your teeth to remove any stains.

However, Dr. Faraj will perform important checks of your oral health. She will check your gums for signs of infection or problems, such as tooth decay. If you have restorations, such as a crown, fillings or bridge, she will check and make sure they are in good condition. She will check to make sure your top and bottom jaw align properly. A misaligned jaw can cause serious problems (and pain) if not treated. And, she will check for any signs of oral cancer.

Why is a teeth cleaning appointment important?

If you are concerned about staying healthy, then you probably know how important your checkup and cleaning at the dentist are. The exam performed during a routine cleaning is just as important as your annual physical at your doctor’s office because it can point to problems with your general health.

A good teeth cleaning and exam are important for your mouth to remain healthy. It is important to catch problems with gums and teeth early. Taking care of dental problems as soon as they arise means less pain for the patient, and good preventative care also means the patient may avoid more serious (and more expensive) procedures later.

Another reason teeth cleaning appointments are important is so that students have a smile they want for those school pictures!

And because Dr. Faraj wants everyone to start the school year off right, she is offering a back-to-school new patient special. New patients pay $99 for a Sensational Smile! This offer includes 20 minutes of teeth whitening during a one-time visit. Patients also get a take-home whitening pen. The pen should be used every night for 20 minutes, and patients should return every six months.

If you are getting ready to head back to school, don’t put off your teeth cleaning appointment any longer! Come in to Novi Family Dentistry for your teeth cleaning, and for the New Patient Sensational Smile offer. Call (248) 946-8611 to make an appointment today!
